The Phrase
Phrase: How now, brown cow? Meaning: If you look carefully at each word, they have an "au" sound, so this chant may be useful in teaching. "How now" can mean "what is up?" or "hello!" or "and now what (do you have to say)?".
Examples:
And now, children, I want you to repeat after me "How now, brown cow?"
I told you that it was wrong! How now(, brown cow)?
I told you it would collapse. How now? Subject: Salutation
