Phrase: A miss is as good as a mile Meaning: You nearly succeeded, but you did not:
-We almost reached the top, but we were caught in a blizzard and had to return.
-Well, a miss is as good as a mile, that is, you failed anyhow.
I only arrived 20 seconds late, and the examiner did not allow me to take the exam. I guess he thought a miss is as good as a mile, but I find it most unfair. Subject: Success
